members may compete
1.1b In the parent and child relay event, the parent or child of a fully paid
up member may compete (see rule 5).
1.2 1.2 New members, who have joined within the two months prior to the first session
may compete at the discretion of the promoter, but will not be eligible for any
awards

3. The age groupings will be on the basis of the age at the following 31st December
4. Medals
4.1 The presentation of awards will be made at the Presentation Disco
4.2 Medals will be awarded to the top three swimmers in each event the provided the
swimmer is a fully paid up member at the date of the presentation disco
5. Parent and Child Relay
5.1 The two swimmers must be directly related as parent, grandparent and child
5.2 One of the two swimmers must be a fully paid up member
5.3 The same pairing can only swim once even if both are members.
5.4 Each fully paid up member may swim once as the first named swimmer but there
is no limit on the number of times they can swim with other first named
swimmers, as long as all other rules are met.
6. Team Relay Events
6.1 Team relays will consist of 4 x 25m freestyle relays (one length per competitor)
At the discretion of the promoter, referee and if time permits a 4 x 25m medley
relay or any other additional relay may be added to the programme.
6.2 Each relay team will consist of four swimmers.
6.3 The team will be picked just prior to the event, the process for selecting
the teams will be :-
6.3a Each swimmer will be ranked according to their 25m freestyle personal
best time. Those swimmers without a time will be ranked last and then by
age. Squad or masters swimmers without a time may be given an assumed
time by the promoter to reflect their ability.
6.3b Swimmers will be divided into four equal groups :-
A The fastest 25%
B The next fastest 25%
C The next fastest 25%
D The slowest 25% (which should include those without a known time)
6.3c Groups B, C and D will have equal numbers
6.3d Up to 3 swimmers selected from Group A may have to swim in two teams,
this is to make up full teams of four, where the total number of swimmers
is not exactly divisible by four. Those swimmers competing twice will
compete in the first and last heat.
6.3e The draw will be made randomly, one swimmer from each group for each
team. This should hopefully produce teams of mixed sex, age and ability
and give all teams roughly the same overall time and therefore the same
chance of winning.
6 6.4 The heats / lanes will be allocated on the basis of the order in which teams
are drawn.
6.5 Lists of team members plus the heat and lane number will be posted on poolside
and the balcony.
6.6 The captain of each team will be the swimmer selected from group A (probably the
oldest). It is the captains responsibility to organise the order in which the
team swims.
6.7 The normal rules of swimming will apply, so teams will be disqualified for false
starts and bad take-overs.
6.8 Medals will be awarded to each of the four competitors in the top three teams
(ie 12 medals in total).
